Hello, my name is Ellie Fleur Johnson and here is a little about me:
I am currently working on a novel, which I started developing during my time studying a MA in Creative Writing, at The University of Leicester. The story follows a group of burlesque dancers whilst they discuss what it means to be a feminist in today’s society. Together they encounter issues with sisterhood, the patriarchy and rape culture.
In 2018, I worked as a Shadow Writer with Writing East Midlands to help produce an anthology of writing from the Loughborough community. In the past, I have also been highly involved in the Marketing process for numerous local businesses.
During my Undergrad, studying English, I had an internship with Tilt and Renaissance One publishing. I did copy-work in behalf of the organisation, whilst also being in control of their various social media platforms. I researched up-and-coming writers and attended spoken word events in London. Additionally, I wrote numerous information packs to be sent out, including one for Caryll Philips.
Spoken-word is a huge passion of mine. I have performed my work at The Leicester Shindig and have also performed alongside Kevan Manwaring, during Literary Leicester, for his piece ‘Life Cycles’.
The themes most often explored in my work include loss of identity, sexuality, ethics, and the vices of modern culture. I specialise in short stories, but have also written scripts, flash fiction and poetry. My poem ‘Inversion of the Male Gaze’ was edited with Andrew Mitchell and has been well received.
I have reviewed for Creative Writing Leicester and also produce freelance work for: social media, marketing, copy-writing and public speaking.
I have recently self-published a book on Amazon titled ‘Phonetic A Bee Seas’. Follow Tommy Fire-Tiger and Daisy Wood-Dog as they educate you on the Phonetic Alphabet. This book is self-illustrated and written. Note: It is NOT suitable for children. The listing can be found here.
